Ep. 35: Celebrity Makeup Artist Julie Morgan Thrives as Foxyfleet

"In life and in business, we pull things out of our gut and sometimes we do our best work when we do that. So taking an opportunity that you never really expect will turn into something will teach you a lot of things."

"Sometimes you're not immediately put into the place where you think you're going to be but you're doing something else and that helps you get into the pace of what's about to happen."

Julie Morgan started her makeup artist career years ago behind the makeup counter at a suburban shopping mall. Today, she's known as Foxyfleet, a celebrity makeup artist and the personality behind foxyfleet.com. She has been the personal artist for celebrities like Giada De Laurentiis and Ricki Lake, who appreciate not only her skills but also her ability to be the "zen master" amidst the chaos. Julie shares her fascinating career path and lessons learned about going with her gut and staying true to herself.

We talk about how Julie created the Foxyfleet brand, how she became a make-up artist, using her career to make women feel great, doing work for the experience to get to where you want to be, lessons she wishes she had known sooner in her career, delegating the things that aren't her strengths, taking time for herself to disconnect from technology and work, her proudest career moments, letting go of being perfect, how great mentors have helped her along in her career, gender issues even in the makeup artist industry, how she keeps her zen and good health while traveling often for work, maintaining friendships in her busy life, making the best out of uncomfortable experiences and growing into being a woman in her 40s.

"In this day and age with all the technology and the endless possibilities, if we just focus in on what we love to do and what we're good at, we can make anything happen."
